Woman gives birth outside Limpopo clinic after she was allegedly denied entry before operating hours

A woman was forced to give birth outside a clinic at Burgersfort in Limpopo, after allegedly being denied entry by a security guard and a nurse. According to a report, a nurse and the guard allegedly refused to open the gate before operating hours. The clinic opens at 7am and closes at 4pm.

The woman was apparently helped by passers-by. In a video circulating on social media, some community members can be heard arguing with the nurse that they should have helped the woman as it was an emergency.

Meanwhile, Limpopo Health Department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana has denied that the nurse refused to help the pregnant woman. Shikwambana says when the nurse went outside; the woman had already given birth.

“The clinic has been closed for almost two years from operating for 24 hours due to criminal elements so when she got to the clinic the security called the nurse who had just arrived to prepare for a day. So when the nurse came out they found that the woman has already given birth. The nurse actually assisted the woman into the facility for all the rituals that needed to be performed and also for her transferal to the nearest hospital,” says Shikwambana.

A month ago, a similar incident happened in Madimo clinic in Vhembe.
