Wicknell Chivayo Donates US$1 Million to Dudley Hall School, Demands Dormitories Be Named Emmerson Dambudzo House & Auxillia House – Businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo has pledged a massive US$1 million donation to Dudley Hall School, with strict conditions attached to how the funds should be used and how the new infrastructure should be named.
In a statement shared online, Chivayo congratulated the institution, saying the money was “ready for immediate use” once his terms were accepted.
According to Chivayo, the school must name its two new dormitories “Emmerson Dambudzo House” and “Auxillia House” — titles he insists reflect meaningful national history and revolutionary values. He further revealed that he once lived in Cornell and Oxford dormitories during his time at the school, while his sisters lived in Anson.
Chivayo also provided guidance on the construction process, recommending RADX Construction, represented by Mr Paul Miller, for the construction of Auxillia House, and Frost and Tulip Construction, represented by Mr Tinashe Honde, for Emmerson Dambudzo House. All architectural work, he added, should be handled by Studio 5 Architects.
On the financial side, Chivayo directed that the funds be deposited into a trust account managed by one of three legal firms: Dube, Manikai & Hwacha, Kantor & Immerman, or Gill Godlonton & Gerrans. He stated that the selected law firm will oversee disbursements as construction progresses and will receive an additional US$50 000 for their role.

Chivayo pledged that the money would be transferred within seven days after receiving written confirmation that all his conditions had been accepted and that construction would commence without delay.
He also informed the school that their promised bus can be collected on Sunday, 14 December, at the Johane Masowe Gwanzura branch, under specific dress requirements for those collecting it.
