What Has Happened to Men Today? Rising Rape Cases in Zimbabwe
...Father R@pes Biological Daughter Twice
In recent years, Zimbabwe has witnessed a troubling increase in rape cases, particularly involving relatives. The alarming trend raises the question: What has gotten into men today?
A recent case in the Mutare Regional Court highlights this issue. A 46-year-old father was sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping his 18-year-old daughter twice. The first assault occurred in October 2024 when the victim entered her father’s bedroom to collect blankets.
He blocked her exit and later that night raped her while she was sleeping in another room. The second incident took place in November 2024 while she was bathing, where he forced himself on her despite her attempts to resist.

Initially, the victim remained silent due to fear but eventually confided in a trusted friend in December 2024, which led to a police report. The court found the man guilty on both counts of rape and sentenced him to 15 years for each count, to be served consecutively, totaling 30 years.
This case is not an isolated incident. It reflects a disturbing pattern of abuse within families, where trust is betrayed in the most horrific ways. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has reported a surge in such crimes, emphasizing the urgency of addressing this societal issue.
The question remains: What drives these men to commit such heinous acts against their own family members? It is crucial for communities to come together, break the silence, and support victims. Justice is not only about court rulings; it begins with believing and protecting those who have suffered.
As the number of rape cases continues to rise, it is imperative for society to reflect on the root causes and work towards a safer environment for all.
