The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has extended its deepest condolences to Warriors midfielder Andy Rinomhota following the passing of his beloved brother.
He is also a midfielder for EPL Champions club Cardiff City.
This tragic loss has deeply affected not only Andy but the entire football community in Zimbabwe.
Andy’s sibling, Joseph Itai Rinomhota, 30, passed away after taking a kick to the ribs in his first ever Muay Thai match in Thailand, as reported by The Sun.
Andy, 27, shared a touching Instagram tribute to his older brother, saying, “Nothing could prepare me for this loss. No words or images can express my love for you, which will always remain. I hope this helps ease the pain, even just a little.”
Joseph was competing in a Muay Thai match in Koh Samui when the fight was stopped in the third round after a kick to his ribs.
He left the ring but soon became unwell while unwrapping his hand bandages. Witnesses reported he experienced muscle tension, struggled to breathe, and collapsed, despite still being conscious.
His trainer performed CPR until emergency services arrived, but he was pronounced dead at 11 PM local time, despite medical efforts.
In a heartfelt statement, ZIFA expressed solidarity with Andy during this time of profound sorrow.
“We stand with you in offering our thoughts and prayers to you and your loved ones. Losing a family member is never easy, and we can only imagine the pain and heartbreak you are experiencing,” the statement read.
The association encouraged Andy to seek strength in the love and support of his family, friends, and the wider football family.
“May the cherished memories of your brother bring you comfort, and may you find peace in knowing that you are not alone in your grief,” ZIFA added.
As tributes pour in from fans and fellow players alike, the sentiment is clear: the football community is united in support of Andy Rinomhota during this difficult time.
“Our hearts are with you, Andy. May your brother’s soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement concluded.
As the Warriors prepare for upcoming matches, the team and its supporters are reminded of the importance of community and the bonds that transcend the pitch.
