Victoria Falls Highway Rehab Underway Amid Social Media Uproar

The government has responded to a social media frenzy over the deplorable state of the Victoria Falls Highway, a major tourist route, saying rehabilitation work is already underway.
A statement from the ministry of Transport follows a viral social media post showing individuals posing in a pothole, allegedly on the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway.
The ministry acknowledged that certain sections of the highway are in dire need of rehabilitation, but disputed the authenticity of the images.
“While we acknowledge that certain sections of the highway are in dire need of rehabilitation, the images in the post do not correspond to any section of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway,” the ministry said.
The government has faced criticism for its slow pace in upgrading the country’s road network, a concern that has been exacerbated by the poor state of the Victoria Falls Highway.
Zimbabweans have taken to social media to mock the government for failing to meet its promises, which date back to 2018.
However, the Ministry of Transport insists that work is being done to address the issue.
“The sections requiring urgent attention are currently being addressed through a collaborative effort between the Department of Roads and Bitumen World. Work is already underway, with teams camped in Hwange, Halfway, and Insiza to ensure the road is rehabilitated efficiently.”
