Veteran ZBC Presenter Tinovimbanashe Butu Dies At 41 After Cancer Battle

Tinovimbanashe Butu, a veteran presenter with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), has died at the age of 41 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

She passed away on Friday in Harare, where she had been receiving treatment. Her death was confirmed by her younger sister, Miss Rufaro Butu, at a local hospital.

Butu, affectionately known as “Tino” by colleagues, began her broadcasting career in 2009 as a sub-editor on the Radio English Desk.

She later joined the Voice of Zimbabwe in Gweru, where she worked as a producer, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to public service broadcasting.

She went on to serve at Montrose Studios in Bulawayo under the News and Current Affairs Department before returning to Pockets Hill Studios in Harare a year later.

There, she continued her work as both sub-editor and presenter until her final days.

ZBC described her as one of its seasoned voices, whose contribution to the national broadcaster spanned more than a decade.

Beyond her professional achievements, Butu was a devoted mother to two daughters, Anesu and Mutsa.

Mourners are currently gathered at Number 8 Derbyshire, Waterfalls, Harare.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
