UPDATE: Zimdancehall Star Shinsoman Fined $200 for Smoking Dagga

Popular Zimdancehall artist Romeo Antony, known as Shinsoman, along with four friends, was fined $200 each for smoking dagga (mbanje). The group appeared in front of Mbare magistrate Ranga Gakanje on Wednesday.

The accused include Themba Sibanda (26), Shumba Tendai (43), Kennedy Simbanegavi (37), and Cosmas Muzanzi (41). All five pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to the Herald, the court fined each man $200 or they would face four months in jail if they didn’t pay.

Additionally, magistrate Gakanje chose to impose a three-month prison sentence, which will only take effect if they commit another offence during the next five years.

The group lives together in Engineering, Highfield, Harare. The incident took place on January 5 around 6:30 p.m.

Detectives noticed the men standing near a parked Mercedes-Benz and sharing a hand-rolled cigarette.

Suspecting it was a dagga joint, the officers approached them. After some hesitation, the group handed over the cigarette, which tested positive for dagga.

The joint was seized from Shinsoman, and all five men were arrested and taken to the CID Drugs and Narcotics Department for further management.
