UPDATE: Marange Woman Sentenced to 12 Months for Brut@lly Ass@ulting Her Child in Viral Video – A Marange woman who was filmed violently assaulting her 11-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 12 months in prison.
However, six months of the sentence were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining six months were also suspended on the condition that she completes 240 hours of community service at Chiwereweshe Primary School in Marange.
The sentence follows a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) investigation triggered by a disturbing video that circulated on social media, showing a woman assaulting a minor whose hands and legs had been tied.

Police later arrested the suspect, 27-year-old Idah Mushayi, who is the mother of the victim. The assault occurred on 13 November 2025 at Village 28, Mount Zonzwe, under Chief Marange in Odzi.
According to police, Mushayi att@cked the child after accusing her of stealing USD 11.
In a statement, the ZRP strongly condemned the abuse, saying:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police condemns all forms of violence against children. We urge parents and guardians to correct and guide their children in a responsible and non-violent manner.”
