Uncle Jailed 30 Years for R@ping 12-Year-Old Niece

The Harare Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 36-year-old man to an effective 30 years’ imprisonment after convicting him on two counts of r@ping his 12-year-old niece.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the offences occurred in 2021 when the victim visited her uncle’s home on what appeared to be a routine family errand.
“Sometime in 2021, the victim went to her uncle’s residence carrying her aunt’s baby intending to collect plastic containers,” NPAZ said.

Prosecutors told the court that the visit took a criminal turn moments after the victim entered the house.
“Upon entering the house, the offender took the baby, locked the door and raped the victim and ordered her not to disclose the incident to anyone,” the authority said.
The court convicted the man on two counts and imposed a lengthy custodial sentence, reflecting the seriousness of the offence and the breach of trust involved.
NPAZ said the ruling sends a strong message against s€xual abuse.
“…Paedophiles have no place in society and must be severely punished.
” Communities are also urged to play their part in protecting children from abuse,” read part of the statement.
