Two Girlfriends,Two Murders: Heartless Killer Gets Double Life Sentence
GWERU – Emmanuel Mahembe, a Shurugwi resident has been sentenced to dual life prison sentences by Judge Munashe Mutevedzi for the cold-blooded murder of his two girlfriends, Patricia Mutero and Idah Chigumbete on separate occasions.
It is the State’s case that, between August 2021 and September 2022, Mahembe met Mutero who was his girlfriend at Donga business centre in Shurugwi. The two drove to Dhanga dip tank in Mutero’s Honda Fit, where the accused person murdered the deceased, wrapped her body in a blanket and buried it along the Gwamamvura riverbed before selling the motor vehicle.
The court heard that, on May 22, 2021,the accused person met Chigumbete his second victim and girlfriend. The two drove to Chigumbete’s sister’s home in Shurugwi, a heated dispute over money escalated into violence, culminating in Chigumbete’s murder. The accused then dumped her body in a disused mine shaft at Mutevekwi Bridge.
It is further alleged that, after killing Chigumbete, Mahembe exploited her EcoCash account for personal gain and continued driving her Honda Fit.
The matter came to light after Chigumbete’s relatives raised suspicions and reported to the police, resulting in the accused person’s arrest.
