Jethro Dube (40) and Itai Gwasira (36) were caught red-handed with cattle carcasses stuffed in the boot of a white Honda Fit on Saturday afternoon.
According to Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube, the arrest unfolded when police officers, taking a break behind a local butchery in Pumula East, noticed the suspicious vehicle.
Upon inspecting the boot, they found four hindquarters and ribs but no permit for the meat. The suspects were immediately arrested, though a third accomplice, Jaison Ndlovu, managed to flee the scene.
A subsequent search of Gwasira’s home led police to uncover more stolen meat, including two ox heads, offal, 50 kg of steak, and hooves.
Gwasira confessed that the cattle had been stolen from a grazing area in Nyamandlovu, where the animals were slaughtered.
The police have warned butchery owners to only buy inspected carcasses from registered abattoirs and urged the community to report anyone selling uninspected meat.
Authorities are still searching for Jaison Ndlovu and are calling on the public to assist in his capture. Two Cattle Thieves Nabbed in Bulawayo
