Trustees Accused Of Misappropriating US$52,000 From Late Dr. Pswarayi’s Estate

HARARE – Tinashe Pswarayi, son of the late freedom fighter and medical practitioner Dr. Edward Munatsireyi Pswarayi and his associate Tauya Masunda, are facing charges of allegedly misappropriating over US$52,000 from rental income generated by estate properties.
The trustees appeared last week at the Harare Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Sharon Rakafa-Matsika and were remanded in custody, with a bail ruling expected today.
The case was initiated by UK-based Takunda Pswarayi, a sibling and beneficiary of the estate, who alleged that the trustees breached their fiduciary obligations.
Prosecutor Polite Chikiwa outlined that the late Dr. Pswarayi had registered his properties under two trusts—Tondori 1 and Tondori 2—before his passing in June 2014.
Tondori 1 encompasses Munatseyi Service Station and commercial building in Machipisa, Harare, while Tondori 2 includes two residential stands in Borrowdale Brook, a supermarket in Kambuzuma and a 51%shareholding in Tondori Farm Private Limited, located in Beatrice.
According to The Herald, the accused allegedly collected US$52,235 in rental income between June and November 2014 but failed to remit the funds to the estate’s executor or report the transactions to the Master of the High Court, as required by the Administration of Estates Act, Chapter 6:01.
Takunda Pswarayi, who is entitled to 10% of the rental income, claims he received no payments during this period.
The alleged misconduct came to light in December 2014 after Advocate Caleb Mucheche was appointed executor dative by the Master of the High Court.
