Trump Announces $2,000 Tariff Stimulus Checks for All Americans, Excluding the Wealthy

Trump Announces $2,000 Tariff Stimulus Checks for All Americans, Excluding the Wealthy – Former US President Donald Trump has announced plans for every eligible American to receive a $2,000 payment derived from tariff revenues collected by his administration.

Posting on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump said, “A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high-income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

He added that opponents of the tariff policy were “fools,” arguing that the tariffs have brought in “trillions of dollars” and boosted national investment.

The proposed payout, described as a “tariff dividend,” is expected to exclude high-income earners. Trump also revealed intentions to use tariff proceeds to reduce the country’s national debt, which currently stands at US$37 trillion.

“This money is coming straight from tariffs — we are taking in record revenues and will soon begin paying down our enormous debt,” Trump said.

While the former president’s statement has generated excitement among many Americans, analysts note that such a proposal would need Congressional approval before any payments can be made.

Republican Senator Josh Hawley previously introduced similar legislation to grant US citizens and their dependents a $600 rebate funded by tariff revenues.

Despite speculation, there is no confirmation that the $2,000 checks will be distributed in November. Political observers describe the announcement as a campaign move aimed at energizing Trump’s support base ahead of the next election season.

If implemented, the “tariff dividend” would resemble earlier COVID-19 stimulus payments, designed to put cash directly into citizens’ hands and stimulate spending during economic uncertainty.
