Truck crew remanded in custody over alleged sexual abuse of male traveller

HARARE – A 48-year-old truck driver and his 22-year-old assistant appeared in court recently for sexually assaulting a male passenger and were remanded in custody until 19 November for a bail application.

Richard Ncube(48) and Alex Moyo(22) appeared before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa facing allegations of aggravated indecent assault.

The State alleges that on November 10 2024, the first accused drove the complainant from Chegutu to Harare, en route to Chitungwiza.

Upon arrival in Harare, Ncube parked at Zim Meal Company in Waterfalls where the complainant fell asleep in the passenger seat.

Ncube allegedly stripped the complainant and made unwanted physical contact. When the complainant resisted, Moyo stepped in, pointing a gun-like object to silence him.

Ncube then allegedly forced the complainant into sexual acts against his will.

After the traumatic ordeal, the complainant sought refuge in the truck, spending the night there due to feelings of unease and fear.

The next morning, he promptly reported the incident to authorities at ZRP Mbare, prompting the swift arrest of Ncube and Moyo.
