Wayne Gembo, a 21-year-old from Glenview 7, was tragically found dead in a swimming pool at Baobab Gardens on the afternoon of September 29, 2024, after going missing during a party the previous night.
Wayne had been attending a gathering with his high school friends when he vanished. His friends reported him missing after they could not locate him, prompting concern as hours passed without any sign of him.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, stating, “The ZRP is investigating a suspected drowning involving Wayne Kudakwashe Gamble (21), found dead in a swimming pool on Tedder Road, Highlands, on 29/09/24. He had attended a party with former schoolmates when the tragedy occurred. The body has been taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.”
Blessing Jonasi, the caretaker who discovered Wayne’s body, recounted his experience to ZBC News: “I woke up to clean the yard and checked the pool but saw nothing due to the dirty water. After cleaning the pool, I returned around noon and found a body. I called someone to confirm; I had no idea someone was missing.”
Family spokesperson Tichaona Fusire shared details from Wayne’s friends, stating, “They were drinking and swimming when a friend mentioned that Wayne had pulled a girl into the pool, causing her phone to fall in. After leaving the pool, they realized Wayne was missing and called the owner to report it. The caretaker said he hadn’t seen anyone.”
Wayne’s parents received the devastating news and rushed to Highlands, where they found their son in a metal police coffin.
The property management confirmed that the group had booked the house and left by 9 PM. A search was conducted but yielded no results, and the incident remains under investigation.
