Tragedy unfolds in Mutare as four men die from Aloe Vera brew

MUTARE – The Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating a tragic incident where four men died and two others were hospitalized after consuming a suspected aphrodisiac made from aloe vera plants at Gonorenda homestead in Marange, Mutare on October 27 around 1600 hours.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“The ZRP has announced a heartbreaking incident where four persons succumbed to death and two others were hospitalized after consuming a poisonous aloe vera brew at Gonorenda homestead in Marange, Mutare on October 27, 2024 around 1600 hours.”
“The next of kin have identified three victims as Joseph Myambo aged 45,Brighton Gwenzi Chibhosho aged 27 and Kudakwashe Marambire aged 44.”
“One victim remains identified at this time”, he said.
Aloe, a cactus-like plant grown in subtropical regions, treats various health issues, including skin problems (burns, rashes, acne) and internal conditions (diabetes, weight loss, gut inflammation).
