Traditional Healer & Client Drown While Performing Manjuzu Ritual – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged members of the public to prioritise safety when conducting activities near water bodies following two separate drowning incidents that claimed four lives in Gweru and Wedza.
In a statement on X, the police said:

“The ZRP urges members of the public to prioritize their safety, particularly when conducting activities on or near water bodies.”
According to police reports, the first incident occurred on 24 February 2026 at Clydesdale Farm Dam in Gweru.
A traditional healer, Edwin Chingandu (33), popularly known as Sekuru Samaita, and his client, Philemon Matawire (46), drowned while reportedly conducting Manjuzu rituals at the dam.
Their bodies were later retrieved by the ZRP Sub Aqua Unit on 25 February 2026.
In a separate case, Munyaradzi Tambaoga (20) and Haggai Tambaoga (23) drowned while fishing at Manyasaland Dam at Coby Farm in Wedza on 22 February 2026.
Their bodies were recovered two days later.
Police have once again reminded the public to exercise caution around dams and rivers, particularly during ritual activities or fishing expeditions.
