Three Women Die in Tragic Car Accident After Gospel Event
A gospel music outing turned tragic when three women from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, South Africa were killed in a car accident on their way home from Tshwane on Saturday, 28 September.
Thulisile Mahlangu (41), Nosiphiwe Bongwe (34), and Dimaketso Leboe (34) were returning from the event when their car collided with a bakkie on the R555 road, just a few kilometers from their homes. The women were traveling in a Hyundai i10 when the accident occurred.
Thulisile’s uncle, Jimmy Mbonani, told Daily Sun that the accident may have been caused by smoke from a fire near the road. “We heard that the smoke obstructed the drivers, and the bakkie driver, trying to avoid the fire, crashed into their car,” Mbonani explained.
The families of the women are devastated by the loss. Zanele Mahlangu, niece of Dimaketso, said they had been planning a family event. “My aunt was like a mother to me.
She was helping with the unveiling ceremony for my mom, but now she’s gone,” Zanele said.
Nosiphiwe’s sister, Ntombifuthi Mbongwe, also shared her grief. “Nosiphiwe was our family’s pillar. She was organizing a family Christmas gathering, but now her plans will never be realized,” she said.
The ANC chief whip in Ekurhuleni Municipality, Councillor Phelisa Nkunjana, and other officials visited the bereaved families to offer their condolences. The council has pledged to assist with memorial and funeral arrangements.
