Three Women Arrested for Stealing Wheat From Relief Truck, Male Accomplices Escape

CHIPINGE – Three women from Madhuku Village in Chipinge have been arrested for allegedly stealing 53 bags of drought relief wheat from a moving truck last Friday.
The incident, which occurred at Chief Musikavanhu’s area around 2pm, also involved three male suspects who managed to escape and are still at large.
According to Mirror reports, the arrested suspects – Sekai Chindezwa (41), Mollen Myambo (42) and Viola Makuyana (18) claimed they had not received their share of the relief wheat.
Accompanied by three male accomplices, they allegedly boarded the truck, which was transporting 600 bags of wheat to another distribution center, and offloaded 53 bags valued at US$1,170.
Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the theft occurred after 540 bags of wheat had been distributed earlier that day, with each recipient allocated 10kg, under the supervision of Valeriah Mandeya, a Social Development officer.
The driver, noticing the unauthorized offloading, drove directly to Chisumbanje Police Station.
While the women failed to exit the moving vehicle and were arrested upon arrival, the men jumped off and evaded capture.
