Thomas Mapfumo Accepts Chivayo’s US$1 Million Deal tp Perform At Jah Prayzah’s Rumoured Wedding

Thomas Mapfumo Accepts Chivayo’s US$1 Million Deal tp Perform At Jah Prayzah’s Rumoured Wedding– Zimbabwean Chimurenga music legend Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo has accepted businessman Wicknell Chivayo’s US$1 million offer to perform at two concerts in Zimbabwe, ending days of speculation over whether he would take up the proposal.

The performances stem from Chivayo’s recent public pledge to pay Mapfumo US$500,000 to perform at Jah Prayzah’s rumoured wedding and a further US$1 million for a private birthday concert if the wedding performance did not materialise.

Announcing the development, Chivayo said Mapfumo had agreed to the proposal, with the veteran musician set to earn US$500,000 for each of the two performances.

Mapfumo, however, stressed that the money was payment for professional services rather than a personal gift.

> “This is not a gift. I am being paid for my work. I am providing a professional service, and that is what I am being compensated for,” Mapfumo said.

Confirming the arrangement, Chivayo wrote:

> “Mukanya has accepted my proposal. He will perform at two concerts in Zimbabwe and will receive US$500,000 for each performance.”

He added that the agreement would make the Chimurenga icon the highest-paid musician in Zimbabwe’s history.

The offer was first announced in Chivayo’s birthday message to Jah Prayzah, in which he revealed that he had gifted the musician a brand-new 2026 Ford Ranger Platinum and US$250,000 in cash.

In the same post, Chivayo also expressed his desire to see Mapfumo perform at Jah Prayzah’s rumoured wedding.

> “If he accepts this invitation, I will personally pay him US$500,000 in cash for that performance. If, for whatever reason, that performance does not happen, I will gladly invite him to perform for me and my family on my birthday and pay him US$1 million,” Chivayo said.

The acceptance of the offer paves the way for two major performances by Mapfumo in Zimbabwe, where the veteran musician has made only limited appearances in recent years after spending much of his time based in the United States.
