Thieves Steal Car and Lobola Money from Lodge Guest

A 24-year-old man from Beitbridge has fallen victim to a vehicle theft while staying at a lodge in Mabelreign. He lost both his car and US$2,400 intended for a lobola ceremony.

Douglas Chinoona had rented a white Toyota GD6 (AGE 4106) from Good To Go Car Rental for his trip to Murehwa. After booking a one-night stay at the lodge, he left the cash in the vehicle’s glove compartment.

Reports indicate that lodge staff woke Chinoona and informed him that two men had approached with keys, claiming they had permission from the car rental company to take the vehicle.

Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, spokesperson for the Harare provincial police, confirmed the incident. “Police are investigating a vehicle theft case in Mabelreign. Inside the vehicle, we found US$2,400 belonging to the complainant,” he stated.

Chinoona contacted the rental company, which advised him to report the theft to the police. The owner of Good To Go Car Rental utilized a tracker to disable the vehicle. But it was already being driven toward Chegutu.

The total estimated value of the stolen items is US$54,700, and as of now, none of the property has been recovered. Police continue their investigation into the matter.
