Thai Woman Rescued After Two-Hour Ordeal with Python

A 64-year-old woman, identified as Arom, was rescued by police after a terrifying two-hour struggle with a python at her home on the outskirts of Bangkok.

According to a video statement obtained by CNN, Arom was washing dishes when the snake suddenly bit her leg and coiled around her.

Despite her attempts to escape the tightening grip, she was unable to free herself. Arom called out for help, but it wasn’t until two hours later that a neighbor heard her cries and contacted authorities.

“We were shocked to see the lady tied down on the floor, with the python wrapping around her,” said Police Major Sergeant Anusorn Wongmalee of the Phra Samut Chedi Police Station. He added, “The snake was really big.”

In footage released by the police, Arom is seen sitting on the floor, trapped as the snake coiled around her waist. Rescuers arrived and took about 30 minutes to untangle her from the python’s grip.

She was then transported to a hospital for treatment. Police said the snake managed to escape and could not be captured.

Thailand is home to 250 snake species, including the reticulated, Burmese, and Blood pythons. While non-venomous, pythons kill by suffocation, wrapping tightly around their prey until blood flow is cut off.

Arom’s attack is the second python incident in recent weeks to make global headlines. Last month, a man survived after being bitten by a python while using a bathroom. He fended off the snake with a cleaning brush before seeking help.

The Thai National Health Security Office reports that over 12,000 people were treated for snake and animal bites last year, with 26 fatalities attributed to venomous snake bites.
