Teenager Allegedly Steals $25,000 to Fund Lavish Lifestyle, Spoil Boyfriend

MUTARE – A 16-year-old girl from Chikanga, Mutare, has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for allegedly stealing USD $25,000 from her brother-in-law, Kelvin Motsi.

The stolen money was reportedly used to fund an extravagant lifestyle, which included spoiling her 15-year-old boyfriend with lavish purchases such as a car, three iPhones and designer clothes.

According to Manica Post , the theft was discovered on March 14, 2025, after Motsi noticed the money missing from his suit jacket.

His wife became suspicious after seeing the girl flaunting large sums of cash on her WhatsApp status.

Following questioning by the police, the girl confessed to stealing the money with the help of her boyfriend.

National Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the case and provided further details about the investigation.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirms the arrest of three suspects following a theft case reported on March 14, 2025, in Chikanga high-density suburb.”

“A 16-year-old girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend allegedly stole USD $25,000 from Mr. Kelvin Motsi and used it to purchase a Honda Fit, three iPhones and clothing.

Investigations led to the recovery of USD $9,000 worth of items, including the vehicle and the phones.

“The suspects, including the boyfriend’s mother, who is accused of safeguarding part of the stolen money, remain in custody and will appear in court soon”,said Commissioner Nyathi.
