Teen Footballer Dies After Sexu@l Abuse by Coach, Family Seeks Justice

GHANA – A 16-year-old footballer from Asamanye in the Ashanti Region has died after reportedly enduring three years of sexu@l abuse by his coach at a soccer academy in Amasaman.

His family is now demanding justice and action against the accused.

Ransford Owusu Ansah, a young aspiring footballer, passed away at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after reportedly suffering severe injuries caused by years of sexu@l abuse. The alleged perpetrator, Mr. Ibrahim Anyass, served as his coach at the Amasaman-based soccer academy.

The boy’s family, grief-stricken over the loss, has called for urgent action, placing a bounty of GHC 5,000 (U$322 ) on the coach, who is now on the run.

The mother revealed that she had been reluctant to enrol her son in the academy due to safety concerns, fears that tragically became reality.

This case has sparked widespread outrage and demands for reforms in sports academies.

Advocacy groups and local leaders are urging stricter monitoring of such institutions, improved vetting processes for trainers and the establishment of channels for reporting abuse.

As investigations continue, the football community mourns the loss of a talented young athlete whose life and dreams were tragically cut short.

The family hopes Ransford’s story will inspire systemic changes to protect other young athletes in the future.
