Taxi Drivers Dress as Women to Honor Mzansi’s Women
In a heartfelt tribute to the women of Mzansi, taxi drivers from Nelspruit donned women’s clothing on August 30, marking a unique celebration of femininity and resilience within the community.
Muzi Sibeko, a 35-year-old taxi driver from Lekazi, dedicated over a week to preparing his outfit for this special occasion.
With 13 years of experience in the taxi industry, he noted that this was the first time taxi drivers had engaged in such an event in Mbombela.
“I now understand how much effort women put into looking good. We must show them love and respect every day,” Sibeko remarked, emphasizing the challenges women face in their daily lives.
The drivers took their tribute a step further by distributing sanitary towels to women at the taxi rank and gifting doeks to elderly women. Fellow driver Ernest Sibiya explained that the initiative aimed to express appreciation for women’s contributions.
“We are supporting women, who thrive even in tough times. Despite the cold weather, we dressed as women to show we care,” he said.
John Mavundla, chairman of the Topstar Taxi Association, encouraged unemployed women to consider joining the taxi industry.
He highlighted that this celebration should extend beyond a single day. “Women are vital in our lives. We wanted to send a message of appreciation for everything they do.
Our industry relies heavily on women, and we stand against any form of abuse,” Mavundla stated.
The taxi drivers expressed their commitment to continuing this initiative, aiming to enhance their support for women in the community.
This event not only fostered a spirit of camaraderie among the drivers but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of recognizing and uplifting women in society.
