Tatenda Pinjisi Honored at Emotional Send-Off in Mutoko

Sungura musician Tatenda Pinjisi received a heartfelt farewell yesterday at his home in Mutoko.

The 34-year-old musician passed away on Sunday at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital after a serious car accident last Friday while traveling to a show in Kadoma. The crash also claimed the lives of two band members and a female passenger.

Many people gathered in Kahwa Village to pay their respects to Pinjisi, whose real name was Tatenda Proud Kahwa. Mourners recognized his talent and contributions that put Mutoko on the map. They remembered him as a creative genius with a bright future.

Notable figures at the burial included music promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, philanthropist Wanisayi “Mahwindo” Mutandwa, and fellow musicians like Tendai Dembo and Pastor Charles Charamba as reported by H-metro.

Family spokesperson Howard Pinjisi thanked everyone for their support during this difficult time, saying, “It was encouraging to see people from all walks of life coming to support us.”

Chipaz, who was a mentor to Pinjisi, expressed gratitude for the smooth proceedings and mentioned that they had provided assistance to the grieving families, including two cattle and 100 kg of mealie meal.

Pastor Charamba encouraged mourners to look to God for strength, emphasizing that true talent is a gift from the Lord.

Representatives from music rights organizations and many fans also joined to honor Pinjisi. ZIMURA’s vice chairperson, First Farai, and ZICCO board member Tendai Chiraya noted the strong community support at the event.

The day began with music and dance, featuring performances by various artists, including Mupositiro Muchetu and Ammi Jamanda. Mentor Itai Chitewe uplifted the crowd with his performance, and Sarah Dee brought energy with her emotional tribute.

Pinjisi, best known for his 2015 hit “Saina” from his debut album “Rumbidzo,” was remembered as a peace-loving artist who got along well with his peers.

He is survived by three sons, and the love shown at his funeral highlighted the profound impact he had on those around him.
