Suspected Harare Fuel Thief Arrested Following Early Morning Operation

Suspected Harare Fuel Thief Arrested Following Early Morning Operation – A suspected fuel thief believed to have been targeting residents in Marlborough, Mt Pleasant, and Northwood was arrested early this morning following a coordinated operation.

The suspect was apprehended at around 4am and is currently being detained at CID Marlborough, where investigations are continuing.

According to reports, the suspect had allegedly been terrorising residents for some time by siphoning fuel from parked vehicles during the early hours of the morning while homeowners were asleep.

In one of the recent incidents, the suspect reportedly attempted to steal more than 70 litres of fuel from a parked vehicle at around 2am. However, the homeowner was alerted after the property’s alarm system was triggered, forcing the suspect to flee the scene in panic by jumping over the perimeter wall.

Several items were reportedly recovered at the scene, including a siphon pipe, a fuel container, a ladder, a pair of shoes, and a knife.

In a surprising turn of events, the suspect allegedly returned to the same property at around 5am in an attempt to retrieve the items he had left behind. The homeowner, who remained alert, reportedly confronted him again and prevented him from recovering the items.

The homeowner also managed to identify the suspect’s getaway vehicle, described as a white kombi bearing registration number AHG 4238.

Authorities have since confirmed the suspect’s arrest, with police continuing investigations into the matter.
