Super sub McTominay secures crucial victory for Man Utd. Manchester United secured a decisive victory against Aston Villa in their fight for Champions League qualification thanks to Scott McTominay’s 86th-minute header. It was United’s fourth successive victory in all competitions, their best run of the season, and moved them within five points of Villa, who remain fifth, and six adrift of Tottenham. The result was harsh on Villa, who were thwarted on numerous occasions by United goalkeeper Andre Onana, and despite the urgings of the home support were unable to draw level a second time.
Hojlund
Rasmus Hojlund was the key man again for United, scoring his sixth goal in the past seven appearances in all competitions. The 21-year-old is the second youngest player in Premier League history to have scored in five successive games, behind only Nicolas Anelka. Hojlund’s goal came in the 17th minute, knocking in Harry Maguire’s header from close range through goalkeeper Emi Martinez’s legs.

It was an important win for United, who have been chasing consistency in their performances all season. McTominay’s winner was his fourth crucial goal in recent games, after scoring twice to turn around a defeat against Brentford and netting twice against Chelsea in the FA Cup. His late header against Villa was a testament to his desire and determination, dominating Matty Cash in their aerial duel to secure the victory.
The win moves United up to sixth place on 41 points, five points behind Villa. Hojlund’s impressive run of goalscoring form, combined with McTominay’s ability to score vital goals, gives United the confidence they need to continue their push for Champions League qualification.
