Sungura Surprise: Macheso Showered with Cash by Traditional Healer During Electrifying Performance

Alick Macheso’s electrifying performance at Shamwari Joe Hotel in Mvurwi recently turned into a night of appreciation when Glendale traditional healer and aspiring sungura artist Sekuru Nyangatayani, born Peter Chimbizi, showered the musician and his band with US dollar notes.

Widely recognized for his deep admiration of Macheso, Nyangatayani has made it a tradition to reward the sungura legend whenever he performs his classic hits.

Speaking about his gesture, he credited Macheso as both a mentor and a key inspiration in his artistic journey.

“As an upcoming sungura artist, Macheso’s music serves as a great source of inspiration to me.

“I always feel compelled to show appreciation when he performs his classic songs,” Nyangatayani stated.

Nyangatayani also paid tribute to the late Tongai Moyo, emphasizing how Macheso continues to uphold his legacy by involving his son, Peter, in performances.

“Tongai Moyo was a great influence on my love for sungura and I respect Macheso for ensuring Moyo’s legacy remains strong.

“Bringing Peter into his shows demonstrates true dedication to the genre,” he added.

Although the night was filled with excitement, it wasn’t without incident.

Suspected thieves attempted to break into Macheso’s vehicle during the event, but his alert security team acted swiftly, preventing any losses.

Macheso reassured his audience, stating, “Some individuals tried to break into my car, but our security team acted quickly. Everything is under control.”

Meanwhile, Shamwari Joe Hotel owner Barbra Mukombwe expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from attendees, stating, “The turnout was fantastic and we truly appreciate everyone who came. We hope to host more events like this in the future.”

According to Zimeye, the event attracted a large crowd, further reinforcing Macheso’s status as a dominant force in Zimbabwean music.
