Sugar Beans Bribe Backfires, Hwange Predator Jailed 19 Years for Cousin’s Wife Violations

A 39‑year‑old man from Musuna in Hwange has been jailed for 19 years after sneaking into his cousin’s wife’s bedroom in Breamland Gardens on two nights, s€xu@lly assaulting her and attempting to buy her silence with offers of “sugar beans.”
The Hwange Regional Court convicted him of indecent and aggravated indecent assault and imposed the sentence, warning that family ties must never be used to protect abusers or silence victims.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the first attack occurred on 31 August 2025 at around 10 p.m when the man slipped into the woman’s bedroom, molested her, and fled.
Afterwards, he tried to hush her by offering sugar beans.
Two nights later, on 2 September at about 11 p.m, he returned and s€xu@lly violated her by inserting his fingers into her genitals.
When he realised she was menstruating, he stopped, pleaded for forgiveness, repeated the bean offer, and instructed her to sweep away his footprints to erase evidence.
Shaken by the second ordeal, the complainant promptly reported the matter to police, leading to his arrest.
The court later imposed 12 months for indecent assault and 18 years for aggravated indecent assault, making a combined sentence of 19 years in prison.
The NPA stressed that s€xu@l offenders will face harsh punishment and that victims’ bodily autonomy and the safety of the home must be protected, emphasising that family ties can never shield abusers or silence complaints.
