SOUTH AFRICA- A Grade 10 student from Huhudi Secondary School in Ganyesa has died, and her family is in mourning. She passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, after allegedly running as punishment for being late to class, IOL reports.
Reports say the girl was punished by the school principal for arriving late. The North West Department of Education said they were saddened by her death, explaining that she had a medical emergency during school hours.
The principal called the girl’s parents and also requested an ambulance. While waiting for help, her mother arrived at the school. Together with a teacher, they took her to the nearest clinic, but sadly, she did not survive.

Viola Motsumi, the provincial MEC for Education, expressed her condolences to the girl’s family, classmates, and teachers. She stressed the importance of working with authorities to investigate the incident.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of such a young life. Our thoughts are with the family and friends during this difficult time. The safety of our students is very important, and I encourage the school to cooperate with the investigation,” Motsumi said.
The cause of the teenager’s death is not yet known. The Department of Education hopes for a quick investigation and has arranged support services for the family, students, and staff affected by this tragedy.
