She described the situation as deeply traumatic for their family and appealed to the public to stop circulating the explicit footage.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the sister, Thato Mahlaba, wrote:
“Good afternoon South Africa. The girl you see in this trending video is my elder sister, and I would like to apologise on her behalf. She is not someone who behaves in such a manner in public, and she was under the influence at the time. As we speak, she is in hospital fighting for her life because this video has severely affected her self-esteem. I do not think she will easily recover from this. I am pleading with everyone to stop sharing the video and making fun of it, as she is a married woman and this is putting her marriage at risk. Thank you.”
The incident has prompted discussions on social media about privacy, mental health, and the potential consequences of viral content, with many calling for compassion and restraint.
Authorities and community leaders have yet to comment on the matter, while the family continues to focus on supporting the woman during her recovery.
