South Sudan Declares 70 Days of Fasting

The South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) has declared 70 days of nationwide prayer and fasting from June 10 to August 18, 2025, under the theme: “Fulfill Your Good Promises, Oh Lord!”
This initiative commemorates 70 years since the outbreak of war in Torit, South Sudan, on August 18, 1955—a moment many believe marked the beginning of one of Africa’s longest-running conflicts.
Speaking through a statement shared with Eye Radio, the SSCC—together with Intercessors for South Sudan, Prayer Network for South Sudan, and South Sudan National Renewal in Christ—is calling on all Christians, both locally and in the diaspora, to unite in prayer for peace, healing, and the restoration of the nation.

Quoting Jeremiah 29:10-11, which promises hope after 70 years of exile, the churches believe the time has come for South Sudan to experience a divine turnaround.
“This is what the Lord says: ‘When seventy years are completed… I will come to you and fulfill my good promise,’” the scripture reads.
The Church leaders emphasized that this is not just about routine prayer but strategic intercession—targeted prayer to dismantle the strongholds that have kept the country in turmoil for decades. Another reference, Mark 9:29, was cited to stress the spiritual depth required: “This kind can come out only by prayer.”
During this 70-day period, citizens are encouraged to pray and fast from their homes, in churches, or any available platforms—whether online or offline. People are also being urged to pray into seven key areas of national life:
- Family
- Church
- Governance
- Economy
- Education
- Media, Arts & Entertainment
- Health
