South African Musician Shebeshxt Faces Attempted Murd£r Charges

South African Musician Shebeshxt Faces Attempted Murd£r Charges – Controversial Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday facing charges of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and malicious damage to property.

His bail hearing is set for 21 November 2025.

Shebeshxt was arrested on November 12 during an intelligence-driven operation.

The charges stem from an incident on October 19 in Ladanna where he allegedly shot a 34-year-old man after becoming agitated when fans greeted him.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the complainant and a witness recognised the musician and greeted him. The rapper allegedly replied, “Kgane a letlale ka nna?” (Why are they staring at me?) before firing a shot.

The bullet struck the victim in the upper abdomen and shattered a Nissan vehicle window. The victim remains in critical condition in ICU at Polokwane Provincial Hospital.

NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzangi said, “We do have the case that can prosecute the suspect.” She confirmed prosecutors may add more charges as investigations continue.

The 30-year-old artist already has other pending cases, including two attempted murder charges, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. He is currently out on R5,000 bail for these previous matters.

Authorities believe his past behaviour and alleged violent outbursts may qualify the new case as a Schedule Six offence—making bail difficult.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe praised investigators, saying, “No one is above the law, regardless of their social standing.”

Shebeshxt remains in custody until his next court appearance.
