South Africa: Traditional Healer Jailed 8 Years for R@pe – A 49-year-old traditional healer from South Africa has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of r@pe by the Burgersfort Regional Court.

The convicted man, Daniel Masinga, was found guilty of s£xually ass@ulting a 38-year-old woman who had visited his residence in Mooihoek, Mashemong, in June 2020 after he allegedly invited her under the pretext of providing traditional medication.

Court proceedings revealed that the woman consumed a concoction allegedly given to her by Masinga before becoming dizzy and disoriented. She later regained consciousness and discovered that she was being s€xually assaulted.

According to evidence presented before the court, the accused allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm and continued to assault her throughout the night.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police and investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection and S£xual Offences (FCS) Unit in Burgersfort.

Authorities revealed that Masinga absconded after being released on bail but was eventually re-arrested in December 2025.

Following his conviction, the court sentenced him to eight years’ direct imprisonment. In addition, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

The conviction has been welcomed as a significant step in the fight against gender-based violence and sexual offences.
