Son Takes His Own Life After Mother’s Murder by Serial Killer

The Chihota family has endured a series of heartbreaking events. After the horrific murder of their mother, Yarai Chihota, by convicted serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi, they faced another devastating loss.

Mwari Chihota, Yarai’s 21-year-old son, took his own life in December of last year.

Overwhelmed by the deep grief from losing their mother, Mwari tragically consumed poison, leaving the family in shock once again.

Pauline Chihota, Mwari’s sister and the eldest sibling, revealed that her brother’s suicide stemmed from his inability to cope with their mother’s death.

The family of five has now become a family of four, with Pauline feeling the heavy burden of caring for her remaining siblings.

Although Sifiso Mkhwanazi was sentenced to life in prison yesterday, Pauline noted that this could never bring back their cherished mother.

She emphasized the irreplaceable void left by their mother’s absence and the difficulties of trying to fill that gap for her siblings alone.

While their prayers for justice were answered, the pain of their losses continues to be immeasurable.

Sifiso Mkhwanazi, 21, was sentenced to life for the murder and rape of six sex workers in Johannesburg between April and October 2021.
