Son axes mother after she rebukes him for harrasing tenant

HARARE – ln a shocking display of violence, a Harare man was remanded in custody after brutally attacking his mother with an axe, following a heated confrontation sparked by his verbal abuse of their tenant which escalated to life-threatening level.
Ben Mapfumo appeared before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa facing assault charges.
The State, led by Anesu Chirenje alleged that on September 24, 2024, at around 7 pm, the accused under the influence of alcohol started verbally harassing the family tenant.
The court heard that Mapfumo’s mother took him to the dining room where she rebuked him for shouting at the tenant. However, he reacted angrily, forcibly pushing her against the wall and ordering her to go to sleep.
It is alleged that the accused person further threatened to kill the complainant, then left the room to fetch an axe. Upon returning, he placed it against the complainant’s head and slid it, causing a cut.
The accused was remanded in custody and instructed to seek bail at the High Court.
