Six Former Ryagri Workers Arrested After Violent US$10K Robbery Over Unpaid Salaries

Six ex-employees of Ryagri Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd were arrested last week after allegedly attacking their manager and stealing US$10,000 in a heated dispute over unpaid salaries.
The robbery occurred around 11am at the company’s Southerton premises in Harare, sparking a police investigation that led to the recovery of part of the stolen funds.
The accused identified as administrator Stella Kahari (25), translator Anele Moyo (25), salesmen Kudakwashe Zhakata (30) and Nigel Willie (27), along with Jeffrey Wenhira (41) and Delight Gumula (27)—reportedly stormed the company premises demanding their outstanding wages.
After being told their former supervisor, a Chinese national who handled salary disbursements, had relocated to Botswana, they allegedly turned their frustration on current manager Ni Hong, physically assaulted him, and forcibly took cash from his pockets.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed that the six were arrested following the incident and now face robbery charges. Police managed to recover US$3,775 of the stolen cash, while investigations continue to trace the remaining funds and determine whether others may have been involved.
According to Bulawayo24, the suspects held various roles at the company, including administrative and sales duties.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that while salary disputes must be addressed through legal channels, taking the law into one’s own hands constitutes a serious criminal offence.
The six suspects are expected to appear in court in connection with the robbery.
