Shurugwi Resident Slapped with 23-Year Jail Term for Okapi Knife Murder

SHURUGWI – Gweru High Court slapped 22-year-old Tinashe Mawere with an effective 23-year jail term for fatally stabbing a now-deceased 25-year-old patron several times with an okapi knife at a local beer hall.

According to the State’s case, on May 22, 2023, at Taona Bottle Store, Chinho Business Centre in Shurugwi, Mawere had a misunderstanding with the now-deceased. The accused person drew an okapi knife and stabbed the victim multiple times-once in the back, left thigh, left shoulder, left eye, and forehead.

The court heard that the accused continued the violent assault, stabbing the victim twice in the abdomen and three times in the right hand. The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

The report was filed to the police which led to the arrest of the accused person.

The accused person acted unlawfully.
