Sensei Tendai Arrested After Video of Him Assaulting Bulawayo Parking Marshals Goes Viral

Sensei Tendai Arrested After Video of Him Assaulting Bulawayo Parking Marshals Goes Viral – US-based Zimbabwean fitness trainer Tendai Humbasha Maduwa, popularly known as Sensei Tendai, has been arrested and is in police custody after two Tendy Three Investments (TTI) parking marshals opened a case against him.

Maduwa was captured on video grabbing and slapping the two marshals during a heated confrontation over a parking clamp in Bulawayo’s central business district on Friday. The footage has since gone viral on social media.

Maduwa, who is based in West Hollywood, California, returned to Zimbabwe for a holiday. In a statement addressing the incident, he said he was along Fifth Street near the National Railways of Zimbabwe building and was attempting to enter a parking bay when the confrontation began.

According to Maduwa, he had his car in drive with his indicators on, signalling that he intended to enter the parking area. A vehicle was reportedly reversing from the parking space he wanted to occupy.

He said that just as he was about to move into the space, one of the marshals knocked on his window and told him:

«“Please don’t drive we have clamped your car.”»

Maduwa said he put the vehicle in park, got out and questioned why the car had been clamped while it was still moving.

He claimed the marshal told him he had been obstructing traffic. When Maduwa asked how he was obstructing traffic, he said the marshal responded:

“Mudhara we don’t care.”

Maduwa further claimed that when he asked the marshal to remove the clamp, he was told that he needed to pay money.

The confrontation subsequently escalated, with video footage showing Maduwa grabbing and slapping two TTI parking marshals.

Explaining his reaction, Maduwa questioned the safety of clamping a vehicle that was still being manoeuvred.

“Honestly why would you guys behave like animals? A car in motion, a driver not parked but getting into the parking lot, what if I had backed up in reverse and hit the guy without me knowing he was there? Or what if I hit vehicles parked in the parking lot or people walking around? What kind of behavior is that?”

Maduwa said three TTI supervisors later apologised over the conduct of their employees and assured him that the matter would be addressed.

“Their 3 supervisors, apologized and said they will deal with their staff for behaving inappropriately.”

He said he subsequently held discussions with the supervisors and urged the company to provide basic training to its parking marshals.

“I had a length talk with them to stop abusing the public and atleast provide basic training to their staff before releasing them.”

Maduwa also offered to provide training sessions to the marshals free of charge.

“I am offering free sessions to help them do better in future and better still provide proper training.”

He said he could have taken legal action against TTI had the matter not been resolved satisfactorily, but indicated that the dispute was eventually settled amicably.

“If they had not handled the case satisfactorily, I could have sued the TTI company. But all was handled amicably.”

TTI operates the parking management system in Bulawayo’s central business district in partnership with the Bulawayo City Council.

Police are yet to provide further details on the case and the charges, if any, facing Maduwa.
