Satchel buy ends in bloodshed 18-year jail term for husband
GWERU – A Zvishavane man from Tagwirei village under Chief Mazvihwa was sentenced to 18 years in prison for striking his 37-year-old wife three times on the head with a hoe, after she used his money to buy a satchel instead of relish.
Norbert Mhlanga, aged 38 at the time of committing the murder appeared before the High Court sitting in Gweru yesterday.
The State alleges that in April 2022, a misunderstanding erupted between the accused and the deceased at Tagwirei village over the deceased’s use of relish funds to buy a satchel.
The court heard that a misunderstanding escalated into violence with the accused assaulting the deceased several times across the body with open hands before dragging her outside and striking her on the head three times with a hoe.
He further struck her with bricks all over her body, resulting in her instant death.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the subsequent arrest of the accused.
