Sanyati Horror: Police Officer Gunned Down by Suspect Linked to Mutangadura Murder

Sanyati Horror: Police Officer Gunned Down by Suspect Linked to Mutangadura Murder – Tragedy struck Sanyati Police Station in the early hours of Sunday after a 32-year-old police officer, Constable Courage Muchechesi, was shot dead by a man suspected to be involved in the murder of Ruwa businessman, Joseph Mutangadura.
According to a police memo, the incident occurred around 2 AM inside the charge office while the officer was attending to a member of the public. The gunman reportedly stormed in, armed with a pistol, demanding to see CID detectives who had earlier raided his home and allegedly taken US$1,000.
“When the officer tried to flee into another room, the suspect fired a single shot which struck him in the stomach,” a police source revealed. “Constable Muchechesi staggered outside the building shouting for help before collapsing near the single quarters.”
Fellow officers found him bleeding and lifeless moments later. Police later arrested the suspect, who is also accused of previously shooting and injuring a CID officer during an earlier confrontation. The injured detective is said to be in a stable condition at the hospital.

In a video that surfaced after the incident, the gunman claimed he was seeking justice for the alleged US$1,000 stolen during the raid. “I just wanted my money back. I didn’t mean to shoot the wrong person,” he was heard saying in the video.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the shooting, describing it as a “distressing and senseless act of violence against law enforcement.” He added, “The law will take its full course. We have lost a dedicated officer who died while serving the public.”
A spent cartridge was recovered at the scene as investigations continue.
