Rwanda Calls for 100 More Zimbabwean Teachers as Education Partnership Grows

Rwanda will recruit 100 teachers from Zimbabwe following a bilateral agreement signed during the Third Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) held in Kigali.

The recruitment is part of a regional initiative to strengthen Rwanda’s education sector through skilled personnel exchange.

The programme has already placed 154 Zimbabwean educators in Rwanda, where they teach English, mathematics, and health sciences in teacher training centres and universities.

Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Honourable Olivier Nduhungirehe, said the Zimbabwean teachers have made a measurable impact, particularly in improving English language instruction and STEM education.

“We have 154 Zimbabwean teachers who are currently in Rwanda, mostly in teacher training centres, where they teach English and mathematics.

“Others are at the University of Rwanda, teaching health sciences,” he said.

ZBC reported that the minister made these remarks during the Africa-Nordic Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting in Victoria Falls.

The education agreement is one of more than 30 memoranda signed between the two countries, covering sectors such as health, energy, tourism, police services, and corrections.

The next round of bilateral talks will be held in Harare, where officials will review progress on the Kigali agreements.

This teacher exchange programme not only addresses Rwanda’s skills gap but also provides Zimbabwean professionals with new opportunities in a regionally integrated labour market.

It stands as a model of how African nations can leverage shared expertise to build stronger, more resilient education systems.
