It is alleged that Muchapondwa, enraged by his separation from his wife—who had since moved in with her mother—reacted violently by pouring petrol on his former mother-in-law and setting her on fire.
“The suspect poured petrol on his mother-in-law before setting her ablaze,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
“The victim sustained serious burns on the head and chest and is currently hospitalised.”
Police swiftly arrested Muchapondwa following the incident.
Authorities say the separation triggered his violent outburst, resulting in the horrific attack that left the elderly woman with life-threatening injuries.
