Runde Bridge to Close This Weekend for Critical Repairs

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced an urgent full closure of the Runde Bridge to allow engineers to carry out what it described as a “critical asphalt overlay” aimed at safeguarding the long-term stability of the busy highway structure.

The bridge, located 105km from Masvingo towards Beitbridge on the Harare–Masvingo–Beitbridge Road, will be shut down for 80 minutes on either Saturday, 22 November, or Sunday, 23 November 2025, between 10AM and 3PM, depending on weather conditions.

In a statement, the ministry said:

“This short but essential shutdown will allow our engineers to undertake a critical asphalt overlay, a procedure necessary to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the Runde Bridge.

“We urge motorists to plan their journeys carefully and expect delays.”

Authorities have warned motorists to brace for significant traffic disruptions, urging the public to seek alternative routes or adjust travel times during the scheduled window.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this essential maintenance and appreciate the public’s understanding as we work to improve our national transport infrastructure,” the ministry added.
