Rooneys Zimbabwe Clarifies Desman Kabaira Scotchcart Retirement Package After Social Media Backlash

Rooneys Zimbabwe Clarifies Desman Kabaira Scotchcart Retirement Package After Social Media Backlash – Rooneys Zimbabwe has issued an official statement addressing public reaction following reports on the retirement of long-serving employee, Desman Kabaira, who recently stepped down after 45 years of service.

Kabaira, who joined the company in 1981, drew widespread attention on social media after reports claimed he was gifted a Scotch cart and plough as his retirement package.

The development sparked mixed reactions, with some users questioning whether the gesture adequately reflected his decades of dedication.

However, in a statement released by the company, Rooneys Zimbabwe dismissed the circulating narrative as incomplete and misleading.

“Desman has been a valued part of the Rooneys family for 45 years, and we are incredibly proud of his contribution, loyalty, and the role he has played in our journey,” the company said.

Rooneys emphasised that the portrayal of Kabaira’s send-off in recent media reports did not fully capture the appreciation and recognition he received.

According to the company, the retirement send-off was conducted with “respect, gratitude, and personal consideration,” tailored in a way that was meaningful to Kabaira himself.

The company further clarified that, beyond the symbolic gifts organised by colleagues during the farewell ceremony, Kabaira was formally recognised and compensated in line with company policies and his long-standing service.

“In addition to the personal farewell organised by his colleagues, Desman has been formally and appropriately recognised and compensated by the company in line with his many years of dedicated service,” reads part of the statement.

Rooneys reiterated its commitment to valuing its workforce, noting that employees remain central to its operations and legacy.

“At Rooneys, we believe that our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we remain committed to recognising and celebrating those who have grown with us over the years,” the company added.

The organisation also expressed gratitude to members of the public who showed support and concern, pledging to continue honouring Kabaira in a manner befitting his contribution.

The clarification comes amid ongoing debate on social media platforms, where Zimbabweans continue to discuss fair compensation and recognition for long-serving employees.
