Reasons to be cheerful at last? Amorim’s year at Man Utd
By BBC
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is celebrating his one-year anniversary at the club amid growing optimism following a turbulent start.
United have won 22 games and lost 21 under Amorim, and a three-game winning streak has seen them move up the Premier League table, with a win at Nottingham Forest set to put them second, even if temporarily.
Amorim has also been shortlisted for manager of the month for the first time.
This comes as Amorim’s tenure began amid scepticism and poor results, with United languishing just above the relegation zone in October.

The Portugue se coach has faced intense scrutiny for his unconventional 3-4-2-1 formation and outspoken style, yet he has maintained a jovial and approachable presence, both on and off the field.
Amorim said, “It’s my character. Also, I know a lot of people want to see me arriving here with a face that [shows] I’m suffering. I like to do the opposite. I will not change who I am. It’s how I see things. I live my life like this, always with the feeling something can change.”
Observers describe him as “very human, very kind,” noting his consistent engagement with fans after games, and his insistence that players interact with supporters at Old Trafford.
Off the pitch, he is involved in team celebrations, reflecting a wider view of his role beyond matchday results.
Despite early struggles, Amorim’s detailed approach in training, focus on player positioning, and reinforcement of tactical messaging are now paying dividends.
He acknowledges the challenges he has faced, stating, “There were some moments that were tough to deal with, to lose so many games, was so hard for me because this is Manchester United… Today I feel – and know – it was the best decision in my life, and I want to be here.”
United’s hierarchy, from Sir Jim Ratcliffe down, remains supportive, with European qualification the season’s target, indicating confidence in Amorim’s long-term vision.
