Pumula East Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Abus!ng Visually Impaired Teen – A 21-year-old man from Pumula East has been jailed for 15 years after admitting to abus!ng his 13-year-old partially blind roommate.

Western Commonage regional magistrate Pasipanodya Maturure handed down the sentence, saying the offence was a serious violation of trust.

“This court has a duty to protect vulnerable members of society,” he said.

“What you did was unacceptable, and a deterrent sentence is necessary.”

The accused, Nkosinathi Gumbo, pleaded guilty and asked the court for forgiveness, telling the magistrate, “lt just happened, I made a mistake, and I am asking for mercy.” However, his plea did not sway the court.

Prosecutor Christina Manyika explained that the accused and the complainant, who are both visually impaired, shared a room at the time of the incident.

She told the court, “This matter only came to light after the child opened up to his teacher, who took immediate action.”

The teacher reported the case to the police, leading to Gumbo’s arrest. The minor was also referred for medical assistance.

Authorities condemned the incident, describing it as a breach of trust and a reminder of the need to safeguard children with disabilities.
