Public Outcry Over Selmor Mtukudzi’s Omission from Father’s Festival
Zimbabweans are expressing their anger on social media following the exclusion of Selmor Mtukudzi, daughter of the late legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi, from the upcoming Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts.
The controversy erupted after festival organizers released the event poster, revealing the lineup of performers scheduled for September 21-22.
While popular artists such as Jah Prayzah, Feli Nandi, Gemma Griffiths, Killer T, and Hope Masike are set to perform, Selmor’s absence was quickly noted and sparked widespread discontent among fans.
Many social media users questioned the decision to leave Selmor out, arguing that she should be the main headlining act, given her status as the heir to her father’s musical legacy.
Critics directed their frustration towards the festival organizers and Oliver Mtukudzi’s widow, Daisy, calling for Selmor’s inclusion.
Some users have threatened to boycott the festival unless Selmor is added to the lineup, while others urged invited artists to stand in solidarity by refusing to perform without her.
Prominent comments included:
**@cdesetfree:** “I looked for @SelmorMtukudzi’s name in the festival lineup and couldn’t find it. This is where I draw the line; I don’t support family divisions. Why isn’t she performing?”
**@Brian Hove:** “Selmor is the only remaining Mtukudzi brand. We can’t celebrate @TukuOfficial without her. She should headline and perform throughout the festival—respect his legacy!”
**@Dhereck:** “If Selmor isn’t there, the other artists should boycott. I wonder how Tuku met Daisy; I have my doubts about her intentions.”
**@MarlvinSaenda:** “No @SelmorMtukudzi, no concert.”
As the festival approaches, it remains to be seen whether the outcry will influence the organizers to reconsider Selmor’s participation.
