President Mnangagwa Delivers 100 Tractors to War Veterans in Bold Empowerment Drive

HARARE — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has handed over 100 tractors to war veterans at Zanu PF headquarters in Harare, fulfilling a key empowerment pledge aimed at boosting agricultural productivity ahead of the farming season.

The initiative, launched under a government-backed mechanisation programme, targets veterans who own farms and seeks to honour their role in liberating the country.

Agriculture Minister Dr Anxious Masuka officiated the handover on behalf of the President, confirming that the equipment is ready for collection and that more support is on the way.

Speaking at the event, Dr Masuka paid tribute to the veterans and outlined the President’s commitment.

“We will forever honour all of you, the brave men and women who took up arms to fight and dismantle the white colonial regime

“I was sent by President Mnangagwa to hand over this first batch. The President has so far secured 100 tractors, which are ready for collection after all due processes have been completed,” he said.

The tractors are currently stored at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and will be distributed through AFC Bank.

Under the scheme, the government will cover 50 percent of the cost.

Beneficiaries will pay the remaining balance through financing arrangements with the bank.

Minister Masuka confirmed that this is the first phase of a larger programme, with more equipment expected to follow.

Zanu PF Secretary for the War Veterans League, Cde Douglas Mahiya, praised the President’s responsiveness and commitment to veterans’ welfare.

“It is in his wisdom that these initiatives finally materialise. President Mnangagwa created the War Veterans League to better understand our socio-economic needs. This is the result of our request for tractors some time back,” he said.

Cde Mahiya clarified that the programme is open to all war veterans who own farms.

He encouraged those in need of tractors to apply through their provincial structures.

“The President has shown commitment and accountability. This is a leader who delivers,” he added.

The handover was met with excitement and gratitude from beneficiaries.

One war veteran expressed optimism about the future.

“I have been waiting for such an empowerment initiative. I am happy that President Mnangagwa listened to our concerns and delivered as promised. We promise to increase agricultural production to fulfil his wishes.”

Cde Thando Sibanda from Bulawayo Province echoed the sentiment, saying the programme had removed a major barrier to productivity.

“The President has made it possible for war veterans to access crucial farming equipment,” she said.

According to The Herald, the tractor handover is part of a broader empowerment package recently launched by President Mnangagwa.

This includes a US$2 million revolving fund to be shared equally among the country’s 10 provinces.

The fund is expected to support income-generating projects for war veterans across Zimbabwe.
